A part of the training culminates in a competition wherein teams of eight jrotc cadets must cross an obstacle using one rope and only the first and last cadets are allowed to touch the obstacle.

This event is selected at the discretion of the host jrotc program. Once the rope has been proven safe cadets will use their skills and equipment to clip onto the one rope bridge and climb across.
